Early Days 2018
All the children have settled in really well to nursery and are enjoying exploring all the opportunities and experiences on offer. They are starting to get to know their new teachers and friends and learning rules and routines. They are all very busy, having lots of fun and engaging in lots of new learning experiences.
Our Topic this Term is Lets Celebrate – September 2018
We learned all about the story of Diwali and the traditions that go with it. We made our own diva lamps, explored Rangoli patterns using coloured sand and even made some traditional sweets. They were yummy.
We celebrated Bonfire night with our very own bonfire in the sandpit and took turns to toast our own marshmallows for snack.
We enjoyed celebrating Halloween at nursery with lots of fun and spooky activities to do! We had fun carving out pumpkins and making funny faces for them. We also practised our physical skills hammering tees into them! We had lots of fun dressing up as Halloween characters such as witches and cats and making our own spooky spells
Christmas was a very busy time in nursery; we had so many things to do! Our parents and grandparents were invited to our Christmas craft day, where we made lots of different crafts to take home. We shared Christmas stories and a special snack too. Our grown-ups were invited to our performance of ‘A Wriggly Nativity’, we had so much fun dressing up and singing all the new songs we had learned. We were lucky to have a trip to the Gala Theatre in Durham to see ‘Snow white’ and some of our grown-ups came along to help. We also had a fabulous trip to Winter Wonderland where we visited Santa in his grotto and he gave us each a special Christmas present for being good boys and girls.
Our Topic this Term is Lets investigate – January 2019
We are doing lots of finding out in our nursery environment. We will be exploring a variety of new experiences such as; looking at how water beads expand, how to make and melt fake snow and how rain clouds work. We will also carry out our own experiments answering questions including, ‘how does a sand paddle work?’
We wanted to know……
- How do the ‘paddles’ on the sand turn? The children came up with some good ideas
We have also been going ‘out and about’ to investigate the world around us. We have visited places in the local environment and looked at the statues and places of interest. We have visited the harbour and the marina to look at the boats and the cranes. There was so much to explore and find out about.
